In West Hawaii, we are doing this through Professional Learning Community. 4 CRITICAL QUESTIONS OF LEARNING
Ensure high levels of teaching and learning for all by creating a culture of collaboration and data-driven decision making.
What do we want each student to learn?
How will we know if each student is learning it?
How will we respond when students experience difficulty?
How will we respond if students have already learned it?
EQUITY
All students deserve high quality instruction in every classroom, a balanced assessment system, timely interventions. Fair grading systems must accurately reflect what students know and are able to do. Additionally, equity is achieved by identifying and ensuring a literacy-rich environment that is culturally responsive. Equity is everyone getting what they need when they need it.
RELATIONSHIPS
Respectful and caring relationships with students create the foundation for a positive school environment that is conducive to learning. Reciprocal respect and accountability are crucial components for student and staff success. Achieving common goals is accomplished through mutual accountability of all staff. We celebrate the attainment of team and individual learning goals.
COLLABORATION
The mission of ensuring high levels of teaching and learning for all requires high-performing teams operating as a professional learning community. Teams demonstrate shared responsibility to continually improve their professional practice to meet the academic, social emotional and behavioral needs of all students. A culture of high expectations is reinforced through the belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels. The individual and collective efficacy of the professionals in the system ensures success.
